The Grand Priory of Australasia is part of the ancient Order of chivalry, the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller (OSJ Malta), an ecumenical Christian Order with a focus on charity. We are dedicated to preserving the Christian faith and for service to humanity.
Established in 1048AD by the Blessed Brother Gerard at the time of the Crusades, the Order began as a hospice for pilgrims and the local population and served people of all faiths. The OSJ remains among the oldest chivalric and religious organizations in the world. The Order’s motto: Pro Fide, Pro Utilitate Hominum (For Faith, For Service to Humanity) serves as a member’s moral compass and is upheld by all Knights and Dames of OSJ while they strive to serve the sick, the poor, and the needy worldwide to the best of their ability.
The Grand Priory Council is the executive organ of the Grand Priory and is responsible for the management of the business, affairs and property of the Order in Australia and New Zealand. The Council consists of the Grand Prior, the Deputy Grand Priors, the Chancellor, the Hospitaller, the Treasurer, the Chamberlain, the Secretary, all Priors currently in office and such other members of the Order as may be appointed by the Grand Prior. |
There are Priories in Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. Victoria has two Commanderies – Geelong, and Ballarat. Members also reside in Western Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and Sydney. The international headquarters of the Order are located in Valletta, Malta. Membership of the Order is by invitation only. |
